Brian Greene, Ph.D. to Speak on "String Theory: Reaching for Einstein`s Dream"
Author of "The Elegant Universe" shares his knowledge DMN Newswire--2012-2-3--Accomplished physicist, professor, and New York Times best-selling author Brian Greene, Ph.D. will speak on ?String Theory: Reaching for Einsteins Dream on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. at Adelphi University. A book signing will follow. This public lecture will also serve as the keynote talk for the Society of Physics Students Zone 2 Meeting, which takes place from Friday March 2 to Saturday March 3.  The Zone 2 Meeting is an   annual gathering of physics students from New York, Ontario, and Quebec and is cosponsored by the Adelphi University Student Government Association and the Physics Club. Brian Greenes lecture will take place in the Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

In his vibrant career, Greene has assisted in making barrier breaking discoveries in his field of superstring theory. Superstring theory is the idea that miniscule strands of energy vibrating in 11 dimensions create every particle and force in the universe. Greenes discovery of topology change turned physics on its head by poking holes in Einsteins General Relativity with his revelation that the fabric of space can be physically broken up. Greenes finds have sparked an abundance of research in the fields of mathematics and physics.

Regarded as ?the single best explainer of abstruse concepts in the world today by the Washington Post, Greene has earned exceptional public recognition through his writings. His first book, The Elegant Universe, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction and sold millions of copies worldwide. His second book, The Fabric of the Cosmos, was a strong follow-up, remaining on the New York Times best seller list for half a year. He has had a wide array of media appearances including David Letterman, Charlie Rose and a cameo appearance on CBSs ?The Big Bang Theory. His collaboration with NOVA led to three Emmy nominations when his book The Elegant Universe, was adapted into a three part series. In 2008, he cofounded the World Science Festival, an annual event that brings together scientists, artists, and ordinary people who are simply interested in the great questions of the universe. Still successful in the literary world, his latest book, The Hidden Reality, explores the possibility that our universe is not the only universe. A Manhattan native, Greene holds a degree in physics from Harvard University and a doctorate from Oxford University where he was a Rhode Scholar.

Tickets are $5.00 with a valid student ID and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Panthertainment Booth located in the Ruth S. Harley University Center lobby. Tickets will also be made available two hours prior to the start of the lecture on March 2.
